Jim Cherenzia has an affinity
for running on the beach. He used that ability to perfection to best Keith Brochu,
a recent returnee to comp- etitive racing and a small, but solid field of 32 in
this unique race which commemorates a deceased running comrade. Cherenzia covered
the 2.8 mile shoreline course in 16 minutes, 55 seconds. Brochu, also a past winner
of the event, was second in 17:59. The top female was 13 year old Samantha Gawrych
in a solid 19:07. This 14th running of the annual event was co-sponsored by the
Westerly Track & Athletic Club and the Pleasant View Inn of Misquamicut, RI.
